Icon Painting Weekend Retreat in Wales
St Michael's Theological College, Llandaff, Cardiff
FRIDAY 13TH - SUNDAY 15TH MAY, 2011
Now in its third year, the Icon Writing Weekend hosted by St Michael's is open to all but book early as the group size is strictly limited. This short course is an introduction to icons as a devotional art form, a theological tool, a collectible commodity and as an art practice. It is intended for complete beginners as well as those who may be more familiar with icons and their production. We aim to write a small icon using the traditional techniques and materials (gessoed panels, gold leaf, egg tempera).
All materials are included and as much individual guidance as possible is given, along with demonstrations at every stage. The weekend is hard work and very enjoyable as well as prayerful. We benefit from the use of the lovely chapel at St Michael's, the library and Llandaff Cathedral nearby. Two nights accomodation in the Halls of Residence and full board is included. St Michael's is easily reached by train to Cardiff and a short taxi/bus ride to Llandaff or by car. Parking may be available upon request.

May 2010: Icon Painting Retreat, St. Michael's Theological College, Llandaff, Cardiff. 16 budding iconographers wrote an icon of St Seraphim of Sarov after Fr Gregory Kroug's prototype of this wonderful Russian saint, spritual father and healer. The icons were blessed in the chapel at St Michael's in a eucharistic service offered by the students.
