Materials and Technique
In seeking to continue the long tradition of icon painting, Helen only works in egg tempera and prepares all the panels with gesso and bole grounds. Gilding is either burnished (water gilding) or matt (mordant gilding). Panels can be rebated or flat, and made to any size, either from chunky MDF or natural wood which is braced and lined. All the icons are varnished and ready to hang.
